Exciting Times Ahead for Upton’s Art Strand!

As summer slowly waves goodbye, we’re rolling up our sleeves and looking forward to a colourful and creative autumn - especially in our much-loved mural garden!

We’ve been busy preparing new mural boards: one for Young at Heart, which we hope to place on the substation in the Church Community Park, and another for World Mental Health Day. That one is extra special—it’s inspired by Disney Pixar’s Inside Out and will be filled with bright colours and cheerful figurines.

Who We Are

The Art Strand is a small but very enthusiastic group of volunteers who love to bring joy and brightness to Upton. We do this through painting, looking after the mural garden, and even by knitting fun toppers!

I’m so grateful to our wonderful team. They give their time and creativity - even while juggling full-time jobs. Without them, none of this would be possible.

How You Can Help

We’d love to welcome new helpers who enjoy a bit of painting—or just want to get involved now and then. You don’t need to be a professional artist, just someone with a love of community and a bit of spare time.

If we had a list of friendly people we could call on, even for just an hour or two, it would make a world of difference. Daytime or evening - whatever works for you.

We’re a very relaxed, sociable bunch, and there’s always a cup of coffee (and a friendly chat) waiting for you!

Exciting News for the Mural Garden

Something wonderful is happening this month! Thanks to the talented students at Poole and Bournemouth University, we’ll soon be welcoming a brand-new bench to the garden.

The carpentry students have built a strong new bench to replace our old wobbly one, and the art department has designed a beautiful sensory backrest for children to enjoy. We can’t wait to see it installed - it will be a fantastic addition for everyone in the community.

A Big Thank You

We are so thankful for the support we receive from local schools, community groups, church children, businesses, and generous individuals. Together, we’re making Upton a brighter and more welcoming place for all.
