September Link\/Clarion

This time last year, I was writing about the school holidays and hoping the weather would be a little kinder. This year, however,  we have been hoping for cooler days!  We have certainly all felt a little toasted  in the heat, including the bedding plants in the mural garden, which have been struggling to survive.

Thanks to Zoe, the postbox toppers are still appearing. Her latest

creation is another fantastic display, showcasing the time, effort and

creativity she puts into each one.

Our next major event for the Art Strand is the Scarecrow Festival, which will  run from the 16 October to 1st November. We will soon be launching our Scarecrow Alerts and plans are already underway. Keep, an eye out for scarecrows appearing around the area, helping to spread the word and encouraging the community to get involved.

 We would love your help to make this the biggest and best festival yet, bringing plenty of fun to children and families during the half term break.  There is no set theme this year, so you can be as creative as you like. If you are looking for inspiration, take a look at our Facebook page,  where you will find lots of ideas from previous  years.

As I will be retiring this year, I would also like to make a plea for new volunteers .  Being part of the Art Strand Team has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my years of volunteering. The community is always  very appreciative of what we do to help make Upton a fun and vibrant place to live.

It is also a wonderful way to meet people, enjoy a chat, make new friends  and work alongside other local groups throughout the year. If you feel you could help in any way, we would love to hear from you. We meet regularly each month, the next being on the 3rd Weds of each month in the small hall in the community centre.
